AYALA 2016
DAYA TAHAN

Our theme was DAYA TAHAN which means "resilience." Emceed by Cindy Nguyen '19 and Djack San Andres '18, Ayala 2016 featured performances by a variety of Brandeis dance teams, a game show segment, and special acts from SEAC members. Between singing in Tagalog and traditional Filipino dance to serving Thai food and Singapore candy, we hope the night was a fabulous celebration of a variety of Southeast Asian cultures! Additionally, by having bubble tea delivery nights and selling raffle tickets, we raised nearly $700 for our choice of charity, the Indochina Starfish Foundation.

EPISODE III: AYALA AWAKENS

Directed, produced, and written by Minh Pham '15, the last installment of Ayala Avengers saw the next generation of Ayalans on their quest to return the 11 Southeast Asian flags to Levin Ballroom in time for Ayala. Watch as the forces of light and dark clash and how the current Ayalans draw from the history of past Ayalans. Will the Ayalans be able to call their comrade back to the light side?

OUR CHARITY
INDOCHINA STARFISH FOUNDATION

Picture
Our charity of choice this year is the Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF). ISF believes that every child, regardless of where they were born, has the right to education, healthcare and support. Their aim is to make a fundamental and long-lasting positive change in the lives of some of the poorest and most disadvantaged children and their families in Cambodia. ISF currently operates two community based programs in Education and Football. Learn more about their work at indochinastarfish.org.

WITH SPECIAL GUEST
THE FILHARMONIC

Picture
With Los Angeles as home base, the group of Filipino-American youngsters who were featured in NBC’s hit musical competition, “The Sing-Off”, has much to sing about.  Making the semi-finals, finishing the first “Sing-Off” National tour, sharing the stage with Linkin Park, Black Eyed Peas and Pentatonix, then being part of the movie Pitch Perfect 2 is only the kick-off to their amazing journey! The Filharmonic consists of six members: Vocalists VJ Rosales, Joe Caigoy, Trace Gaynor, and Barry Fortgang, Vocal Bass Jules Cruz, and Beat boxer Niko Del Rey.

MISSED THE SHOW? WATCH IT BELOW!

Ayala 2016 kicked off with the final installment of Minh Pham '15's Ayala Avengers trilogy. Next Boston College Southeast Asian Student Association wowed us with escrima, a Filipino martial art that uses sticks as combat weapons. Then we had performances by step team Platinum, Filipino songs by SEAC members, and capped off the first act with South Asian folk dance team Bhangra.

We started the second half with our friends from hip hop dance team Stop Motion, quizzed audience members in a few rounds of SEAC Family Feud, and our SEAC members brought out the tinikling (bamboo) sticks and slick dance moves to finish off.  The Filharmonic were the last to grace us with their smooth vocals.
